You have heard of links – way too many times, if I am not mistaken. Links here and links there. Inbound links, back links, outbound links, link love – all these terms are used so many times that even a newcomer to blogging and SEO would at least have an idea what a link is. But how is linking important to SEO?
Before we can answer that, let us take a look at the difference between outbound links and inbound links. So what are outbound links? As the name ...

Haven’t gotten enough of SEO jargon from the previous post? Well here are some words that you will probably encounter as you embark on your SEO journey. Again, thanks to SEOmoz for the list.

bot (robot, spider, crawler) A program which performs a task more or less autonomously. Search engines use bots to find and add web pages to their search indexes. Spammers often use bots to “scrape” content for the purpose of plagiarizing it ...

One very common pitfall that bloggers may take tend to take lightly is focusing too much on search engines when writing their content. This is quite understandable because of the very high value that is placed on SEO practices. However, there is another aspect of SEO that may be overlooked. I am talking about thinking about your readers – your human readers.
Go back to the first moment that you thought about starting a blog. Why did you want to have a blog? Why did you want to write? The ...

So have you come up with the best and most creative domain name for your blog? Maybe you have even registered it and pointed your Wordpress or Blogger blog to publish to that domain. Does this mean that you can sit pretty and expect your search engine ranking to go up? Does it mean that you can expect your daily visits to shoot up?

We ended with the example of del.icio.us in the last post. This kind of domain name takes advantage of the existing extensions. Is this a good way to create a domain name? I think that it could be – if you can come up with a word (or words) that makes sense and that is (are) related to your blog content. Some of the more popular domain names making use of this technique:
sear.ch
b.uy
tel.ly
beach.es
justcurio.us
designm.ag
podca.st
foot.ie
Why not challenge yourself to see if you can come up with a suitable domain name?
Another way ...

In the previous post, we talked about how you can find the perfect domain name for your blog. However, we only really focused on the benefits that using keywords could bring in terms of search engines. There are actually other things that you can consider in order to grab the most suitable domain name for your blog. One important aspect is
how brandable your domain name is.
What exactly do I mean by brandable? (I don’t think you will find that word in the dictionary, by the way). I think ...

In the previous post, we talked about how serious bloggers prefer to get their own domain over using the default domain that free blogging platforms provide. If you are ready to buy your own domain, you should think long and hard as to what domain name to use. You can always choose any name that suits your fancy without thinking about the consequences in terms of SEO, that is true. However, I am assuming that since you are serious enough to spend money – albeit a small sum – on a domain, ...

Blogs are all over the Internet these days. I still remember when blogs first began to get big. I resisted. My rationale was that I keep my thoughts to myself, I do not like people finding out what I think – why should I create a blog? Then the nature of blogs changed. I changed. My way of thinking changed. I now blog – A LOT.
There are many different blog platforms today and many of them are free. I do not see any “bad” thing about using ...

We have been talking about SEO in relation to blogging for quite some time now but an old question struck me once again today. Do we really need SEO for blogs? If so, why? In order to answer this question, perhaps it would be better to take a look into what you want to achieve with your blog and what SEO does. If the answers to the two things coincide, then our original question would be answered as well.
So what do you want to achieve with your blog? Different people ...
