Google’s Webmaster Guidelines

When coming up with a new website or trying to spruce up an existing website many website owners now concern themselves with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). However, many website owners know nothing about SEO nor do they have the resources needed to hire SEO experts. For website owners like this don’t think that there is no hope for your site. You can still optimize your website to the best of your ability, or at least avoid getting blocked by Google, by simply following some of this simple advice written in Google’s Webmaster’s Guidelines. Why Google’s Webmaster Guidelines? Of course if you aim to be noticed by search engines you might as well aim to be noticed by Google. After all its common knowledge that being on Google means you’ll most probably also be noticed by other search engines. As Google said following the guidelines will help Google, and other search engines most probably, find, index, and rank your site. The guidelines contain advice regarding content and design, technical details, and website quality. If you cannot follow all the suggested guidelines at least follow the DON’T sections because having any of the DON’TS will surely affect your ranking if not remove you from the index completely.
Although not mentioned in the Webmaster Guidelines it is common sense to make sure that your website does not break any internet laws. Copyright infringement is of course a big no. Another area of concern aside from the originality of content is its freshness. A good way to provide “unique an relevant” content on a regular basis is to simply add a blog as part of your website. You should also submit your website to directories to help your website get noticed by search engines.
