Choosing a Search Engine Optimizer (SEO)

So you want to get a higher page rank and you don’t know anything about SEO. What do you do? Simple hire Search Engine Optimizers or SEOs. Before you go ahead and hire somebody though here are some tips in choosing an SEO that will actually help you improve your rank and not result in getting your website dropped from search engine listings. The following tips is a summary from Google Webmaster Help Center. Though Google doesn’t recommend any SEO firm they of course recommend you to choose wisely.
1. Research the background of the SEO firm you’re considering. Look out for any unsavory news. Choose an SEO with an untainted reputation.
2. Avoid using SEO firms that try to sell you their services through unsolicited emails.
3. Do not believe an SEO firm that guarantees you a top rank in Google SERPs or in any other search engine. Do not believe even those that say they have clout with Google because the only way to submit to Google is through their ADD URL page or the Google Sites (Beta) Program. Same goes for other search engines they won’t automatically raise someone’s page rank just because of “clout”.
4. Ask the SEO firm for details on how they plan to help improve your website’s rank. Though some explanations might go over your head look out for warning signals. Learn at least the names of some black hat methods and make them give you an assurance that they won’t use any of those. Make them sign a contract that states the fact that they won’t use any unsavory techniques and so jeopardize your website in the end. If the SEO firm won’t explain what they intend to do or won’t sign a contract you insist on then move on to the next firm.
