Reciprocal Linking: Another Way To Get Links

relevant-links.jpgIn my most recent posts, I talked about ways to get inbound links to your blog. An inbound link originates from a web site other than your own and it points to your blog. Some of the most common ways that you can get inbound links are to submit your blog to blog directories and to write articles for article submission web sites. There are more ways to get inbound links, though, and one of them is reciprocal linking.

This is another very popular way of actively creating inbound links to your blog. What happens is that you find other blog owners who are looking for inbound links. You then make an arrangement to create a link to his blog and he does the same thing for you. Easy enough, huh? Well, there is the problem of finding people who would want to exchange links with you. You can start with those you know – friends, family members, and colleagues who have their own blogs. You can also visit blog communities and see if you can find people open to reciprocal linking.

I have nothing about reciprocal linking. I do in this my personal blog. However, I would rather be a bit choosy with regard to who I exchange links with. There are some people who would visit a blog and simply leave a message – “Hey visit my blog and let’s exchange links!” Sounds good but does it really mean anything if you just do that to every single blog you find online? When people do this out of the blue, I very rarely respond because most of the time, the blogs are not relevant in anyway to mine. The bottom line is to choose who you exchange links with.
