Directory Submissions: Get Links
In the previous post, we talked about the kinds of links and why it is important to have as many inbound links as you can. How do you get these links, though? Do people automatically link to you or can you do something actively to get other web sites to link to you?
One common way of getting inbound links is by submitting your blog to directories. Directories are web sites which function much like phone books. They, however, feature web sites and blogs. In these directories, you can find the URLs of various web sites and some basic information as well. If you want to get started on getting inbound links, submitting your blog would be a good way to do it.
Aside from getting inbound links when you submit your site to a blog directory, you also get an added benefit. That is, you have the opportunity to get the word out to the online world that your blog exists. When people visit the directory to look for blogs on a certain topic, they can stumble upon your blog in the list.
So how do you submit your blog? It is fairly easy – you just need to identify the different directories that are in existence and sign up or submit your blog to them. Some directories require that you link to them as well (I told you, inbound links are important) while some do not require a reciprocal link. Some directories ask for payment while many have free offers.
If you are at a loss where to find these directories, you can search Google or visit this post at Search Engine Journal, which sums up some of the best directories.
