Optimizing Keywords: Use plural or Singular?

A common problem in SEO is choosing which keywords to optimize for: singular or plural? While some say that it doesn’t really make a difference that is not actually true.

For example if use “gadget” as keyword Google will return 49,400,000 result while for the terms “gadgets” you will get 93,600,000. This means that you have more competition for the plural form. Normally what you would do is choose the term where you have less competition. But if you use Wordtracker you will see that gadgets is also searched more often than the singular form and that using the KEI index gadgets is a better keyword to use. Other times though the KEI index will reveal that the singular form is a better keyword like in the case of network and networks. This simply means that when you are doing SEO there is really no consistently preferred form between plural and singular. What you should do is always check which form the users are actually looking for and use that to optimize your keywords.
