Your Inbound Links – In From Where?

Question

My last entry ended with the words “plenty of them in the right places”. I was of course referring to your inbound links. Although your number of inbound links are very important it is also important that those links be quality links.

Quality links? This simply means that an inbound link is a lot more valuable and will produce more traffic if it comes from a reputable and popular website. For example if you have 20 inbound links but all come from your friends’ personal blogs whose readers are almost the same as yours and who are as obscure as yours then most likely you’ll get more new incoming traffic from a single link from a news site with countless readers.

What this means is that reciprocal linking although good doesn’t really do much. Of course you can share the love and link back but in the end your aim should be to get inbound links from biggies.
